If you're having trouble deciding what to read next, here are some underrated recommendations based on popular BookTok picks!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas or The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black shot immediately into the TikTok spotlight, but there are plenty of fae-inspired fantasy stories out there, like Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones. The author draws on goblin lore to weave together a captivating dark romance between Liesl and the infamous Goblin King. The emphasis on family, music, and magic make this a unique spin on the traditional faerie story.

Six of Crows
 by Leigh Bardugo

This magical heist story has been a YA favorite since its release. If you liked it, try Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody! It has a really cool magic system and a cast of memorable characters including a young woman looking for her missing mother, a charming street lord/con man, mafia leaders, and more. If you enjoy card games, cons, and the dark, gritty city setting of the Crows’ home of Ketterdam, this is the perfect book for you.

The Inheritance Games
by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Inheritance Games has been a popular YA thriller filled with riches, unraveling mysteries and a touch of romance. The puzzles and adventures can also be found in a more historical setting in Curse of the Specter Queen by Jenny Elder Moke. The characters embark on a delightful puzzle-solving, artifact-hunting adventure. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a quick, solid, lighthearted YA adventure with the barest touch of supernatural elements.

Kingdom of the Wicked
 by Kerri Maniscalco

Kingdom of the Wicked exploded on TikTok because of its dark, brooding, demonic love interest - AKA Wrath, one of the Princes of Hell, named for the deadly sin. Emilia tries to solve the mystery of the murdered woman in her small Italian town. The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh is also a historical YA fantasy with a dark, brooding love interest - but Sebastien is a vampire from New Orleans, and the protagonist Celine is a French girl with a knack for getting herself into trouble. Both these books are great for fans of historical fantasies with a touch of darkness and romance.
